Former Anglo Banker Feared Media Attention At Son's Wedding

Former Anglo banker Sean FitzPatrick has admitted to "dreading" media coverage surrounding his son's wedding.

The banker's son married lawyer Barbara Clear, niece of millionaire packaging tycoon Michael Smurfit, at the five-star K Club Hotel at the weekend.

A close friend of the businessman told the Irish Independent: "Before the wedding Seanie was very anxious, he said 'I'm dreading it. The press will be all over it, they will say I'm splashing out, living the high life' and he said 'the truth is I'm not picking up the bill, I won't be putting my hand in my pocket for a penny of it."

The source continued: "It's been very hard on David. Whatever you think of Sean, David is not to blame for any of what happened and just wants to enjoy the most important day of his life in peace.

"He left Ireland and works mainly in New York now, to get a fresh start after what happened and it was nice because that was the theme of the wedding. Each table was named after a famous landmark in the Big Apple. And New York was where he got down on bended knee and asked Barbara to marry him, so it was a nice touch."
