Ministers Urge Students To Apply For Scholarship Opportunities

Employment and Learning Minister, Dr Stephen Farry and Education Minister, John O’Dowd today launched the All Ireland Scholarships for 2012.

The annual scholarships, funded by businessman JP McManus and now in their fourth year, provide financial assistance to top-performing students from low income households who intend to take up full-time undergraduate courses in the coming autumn. The value of each scholarship is £5,500 per annum.

DOE Hosts UK Wide Conference On Built Heritage

DOE has hosted a UK wide conference to highlight the crucial importance that regenerating our Built Heritage has on contributing to social and economic development.

Entitled 'Opening Doors to the Future', the conference was organised by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) in partnership with Armagh City and District Council and the Prince's Regeneration Trust.

Competitors from across Northern Ireland have taken part in the bi-annual ChefSkills competition held during IFEX at the Kings Hall, Belfast

Hats Off To Top Trainee Chefs

ChefSkills, which is sponsored by the Department for Employment and Learning, is a three day competition where participants compete for a number of titles including the coveted Chef of the Year Award.

A number of students from the Republic of Ireland, and some from France and as far away as Kenya, also came to savour the experience.

The competitions formed part of IFEX – Northern Ireland’s largest international food, drink, retail and hospitality event which attracted over 4,000 visitors over the three day period.

Overseas students attend Stormont reception
The Minister for Employment and Learning, Dr Sean Farren, has welcomed a group of international students to the seat of Government in Northern Ireland. The students, including participants in the prestigious Chevening Scholarship programme, attended a reception at the Parliament Buildings, Stormont.

Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald is urging A Level and Level 3 Extended Diploma students to consider applying for the 2025 All Ireland Scholarship Scheme. The annual scholarships, which were first introduced in Northern Ireland in 2009, are funded by businessman JP McManus.

Northern Ireland pupils are in a class of their own
Northern Ireland students have outperformed their peers in England and Wales in both A-level and the new AS level exams. Figures released by the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) on Thursday August 16 show a record 48,000 grades have been issued to Northern Ireland students across all exam boards.

O'Dowd Applauds JP McManus Scholarship
A cross-border event has marked an important scholarship scheme with the NI Education Minister, John O'Dowd, presenting awards to the successful Northern Ireland recipients at a ceremony in Limerick. Funded by JP McManus, it provides financial assistance to 25 top-performing students from NI who are from low-income households.

£200,000 Wind-Powered Scholarship Opens For NI STEM Students
