Kidnapped Aid Worker Freed In Sudan
A Northern Irish aid worker who spent nearly three months in captivity in Sudan has been released.
Patrick Noonan, 48, was kidnapped by armed men on March 2012, along with a Sudanese driver.
He had been working for the UN World Food Programme for two years and has been in their care since being freed.
Minister for Africa Henry Bellingham said being able to announce the release gave him "great pleasure".
He said: "Patrick’s family and friends must be delighted having endured the ordeal of his captivity with great strength and dignity."
Man Shot In West Belfast
A man has been shot in the legs in the Falls Road area of West Belfast.
The incident happened at Thames Street at 10.30pm yesterday.
The 28-year-old also suffered injuries to his head.
Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them on 0800 600 8000.
Zero Tolerance To Paramilitary Flags
A paper produced by a cross-party group at Stormont has said there should be a "zero tolerance" approach to paramilitary flags.
The Cohesion, Sharing and Integration Strategy draft document said that the current policy of dialogue may boost the community status of what it calls "self-appointed gatekeepers", at the expense of others in their area who "don't associate with violence".
The paper said that paramilitary flags and emblems on main streets and in sensitive areas should be treated as priority.
The issue of flags has been a contentious one for some time and last week the Alliance Party left the working group, saying its recommendations were too weak.
It is understood Alliance wanted stricter deadlines for the removal of paramilitary flags to be enshrined in law.
