Launderette Worker 'Knew She Would Die'
A woman who was shot to death by her former lover knew her fate, a court has heard.
Marion Millican's former workmate Pamela Henry told police she escaped in the moments before the shooting, leaving the victim alone with her ex.
She said she looked back to see "poor wee Marion. Her face was so white… she knew, she knew."
The video of Mrs Henry's recorded interview was played to Antrim Crown Court, where Fred McClenaghan, of Broad Street, Magherafelt, is facing a charge of murdering the 51-year-old in Portstewart.
He denies murder, saying the shooting was a bungled suicide.
Mrs Henry said McClenaghan was "in a violent mood, a mad man, a man who was meaning business" who arrived at the launderette where both women worked in March last year with a "big gun under his arm", then grabbed Mrs Millican by the arm and demanded to talk to her.
Mrs Millican refused to leave with him and tried to calm him down, but McClenaghan shot a hole into the ground between the two women, the jury heard.
"I panicked and ran into the toilet to try and phone my husband, but he (McClenaghan) ran after me and broke my door down," Mrs Henry said in the 46-minute video.
She escaped to a nearby shop to raise the alarm.
Mrs Henry said that she felt sorry to leave her friend behind, but was terrified and panicking.
She said she would never forget what happened.
The trial continues.
