Aer Lingus Flights To Switch To Belfast City Airport

Aer Lingus is to switch it operations from Belfast International Airport to George Best Belfast City Airport, it has been unveiled.

It is believed flights could be moved in the coming weeks and a formal announcement will be made.

It follows the end of BMI Baby Services from the City Airport, which carried 400,000 passengers every year.

Aer Lingus operates flights to Alicante, Barcelona, Faro, Lanzarote, Las Palmas, Heathrow, Malaga and Tenerife.

A spokesman for George Best Belfast City Airport said: "Following the announcement of the departure of bmibaby, we stated that we were confident that we would attract new airlines to Belfast City.

"This position has not changed and we expect to make several announcements in the coming weeks.

"We are certainly not in a position to comment on speculation regarding specific airlines at this stage."

Aer Lingus To Cut 69 Jobs At Belfast City Airport
Are Lingus is to cut up to 69 jobs at its Belfast base. The firm said the staff affected will be offered jobs in Dublin, and all flights to and from Belfast City Airport will not be affected. Aer Lingus issued a statement which said: "With effect from the end of October 2016 we will reduce the numbers employed at our Belfast base.

Aer Lingus flights are to go from George Best Belfast City Airports as of the autumn. The airline is switching its operations there from its former base at Belfast International Airport. It will fly three flights daily in each direction to both London Heathrow and Gatwick.

bmi to concentrate services at Belfast City
bmi has announced that it is to discontinue its Heathrow service from Belfast International Airport (BIA) and concentrate resources in Belfast City Airport. However, bmi will maintain a presence at BAI as bmibaby will be including Belfast International as a destination to be served from a new UK base to be announced shortly.
