Beckett Festival For Enniskillen

The events programme for the first festival celebrating the work and influence of Samuel Beckett has been launched.

The Happy Days Enniskillen International Beckett Festival will take place between August 23 and 27 this year, with input from artist Antony Gormley, singer-songwriter Duke Special, the BBC’s William Crawley and Beckett theatre from around the world.

Organisers said the festival would reflect Beckett’s influence across art forms.

Part of the London 2012 Festival, it will last for five days.

Speaking at the launch which took place at Enniskillen Castle, Sean Doran, Founder & Artistic Director said: "Our aim is to give Beckett lovers across the world an annual home, to gather and celebrate the writer's genius and wit. It arrives at a time of vigorous cultural renaissance in Northern Ireland."

Antony Gormley's Tree for Waiting for Godot will be on display, while Duke Special pays homage to the theatre of the absurd and William Crawley speaks at the opening of the festival.

Family-friendly performances and events include Clastic Theatre's puppet performance of Act Without Words 1, and a fun, tongue-in-cheek and family-focused sports programme which includes rugby, rowing, cricket and also a search for Ireland's fastest artist.
