University Applications Down
Nearly 5% fewer students have applied to start at Northern Ireland's universities this summer that did at the same point last year.
The region has seen the second-biggest applications slump in the UK, with 4.5% less UCAS forms coming in.
This compares to a 10% slump in England, 2.9% in Wales and 2.1% in Scotland.
Tuition fees at English universities are due to triple to a maximum of £9,000 per year starting this September.
Donkey Drowns In Bog
A donkey has drowned in a County Tyrone bog.
Staff from the Donkey Sanctuary were called to the land near Coalisland where five donkeys were abandoned, but they could only rescue four.
Two mares, a stallion and a foal were pulled from the bog.
Proms In The Park Goes To Titanic Slipways
The eleventh BBC Proms in the Park event in Northern Ireland is to be held at the Titanic Slipways this year.
Part of the UK's Last Night of the Proms event, it will include the Ulster Orchestra, Bangor-born singer-songwriter Foy Vance and American opera star Noah Stewart.
Free tickets for the concert, which take place on September 8, will be available from 9am on July 9 at www.bbc.co.uk/tickets.

The BBC's Proms in the Park is set to return to the Titanic Slipways in Belfast on Saturday, 08 September. The event remains one of BBC Northern Ireland's most ambitious and popular outside broadcasts. Approximately 11,000 people are expected to attend the event, which is supported by Belfast City Council.

Rise in NI unemployment figures
The number of people unemployed in Northern Ireland is on the increase according to the latest figures. Labour force statistics released on Wednesday revealed that some 46,000 people are unemployed, a rise of 3,000 on the this time last year.
