Denroy Plastics Securing Funding For Prestigious Project

First Minister Rt. Hon. Peter D. Robinson MLA and Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster have congratulated Bangor-based Denroy Plastics on securing European funding for a significant research and development project.

The plastic moulding manufacturer revealed the news at Invest Northern Ireland’s stand at the Farnborough Air Show. The project will see Denroy take up a leading position in a consortium comprising industry market leaders, AIRBUS and 5M, and scientific and technological research organisations, MatRI in the UK and ITA in Spain.

The EC-funded project aims to develop a process to injection mould thermoplastic composite components for aerospace structural applications. A successful implementation of this process will put Denroy at the forefront of ground-breaking technology opportunities for the aerospace industry. The target areas will be the replacement of small-to-medium sized machined aluminium, titanium and hand lay-up thermoset composite components.

The First Minister said: "In its 40 year history, Denroy Plastics has built up unrivalled knowledge in plastic moulding and is regarded as a world leader in its field. Implementing this project in partnership with renowned international partners will give Denroy a platform to compete for new and innovative business opportunities on a global stage."

Arlene Foster said: "The global aerospace industry as a whole is continuing to experience significant growth and as a supplier to many of the most important aircraft programmes, the aerospace sector in Northern Ireland is contributing to this. Denroy Plastics has established itself as an enterprising and progressive company and has demonstrated its commitment to market-led innovation over its 40-year history. This R&D project will position Denroy to benefit from future supply chain opportunities."
