Pig slurry blamed over Co Antrim fish kill
A spillage of pig slurry is being blamed for thousands of dead fish being washed onto the shores of a Co Antrim river.
It is the second time in two years the two-mile stretch of Inver River at Larne has been affected.
The carcasses of many salmon and trout have been recovered from the river with local anglers and officials at the Fisheries Conservancy Board saying they believe the incident to be the cause of pig slurry.
A local company was fined for causing the pollution after the last incident in May 2001.

Larne river walk receives £20k facelift
The Riverdale area of Larne has received a £20,000 facelift thanks to the Department for Social Development’s (DSD) Local Community Fund. The once overgrown Inver River Walk has been transformed with the planting of scented wild flowers, shrubs, trees and the introduction of benches and picnic tables.

Man Fined For Eight Water Pollution Offences
A County L'Derry businessman has been fined £10,000 for eight separate water pollution offences. Norman Menary (69) of Brough Road, Castledawson, Magherafelt, pleaded guilty at Coleraine Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ballymena.

Body found in County Antrim
Police have confirmed that the body recovered from the river Lagan in Lisburn earlier today was that of a 60-year-old local man. However, the identity of the man has not yet been released. A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out tomorrow to establish the cause of death. There are no further details at present.

Public Appeal After Suspected Fish Kill In Ballykelly River
The Loughs Agency is appealing to the public to help protect local waterways after a suspected fish kill on the Ballykelly River in Co L’Derry. A total of 422 dead fish were recorded after fishery officers were deployed to the scene. The majority of the fish were trout as well as several salmon and flounder.
