Ulster Bank Urged To Speed Up Compensation

The Consumer Council has urged the Ulster Bank to speed up awarding compensation to customers who were affected by the month-long technical glitch that meant they could not access their accounts.

Its has been two weeks since normal service was restored for most customers, but those affected still have no details about a compensation scheme the bank said would come about.

Petrol Station 'Drive-Offs' Spike

Police in Carrickfergus have asked the public to report suspicious activity at petrol stations following a spate of fuel theft 'drive-offs'.

People have been driving off without paying for their fuel and when this is added to recent siphoning thefts across Northern Ireland, retailers are facing significant losses.

Riots Accused 'Ran At Police With Irish Flag'

An alleged rioter ran at police lines carrying an Irish tricolour during trouble in north Belfast on July 12, the High Court has heard.

Aiden McCrory, 24, of Eglantine Avenue, is also accused of throwing masonry, bricks and bottles during street violence in Ardoyne following the annual Orange Order parade through the area.

He is charged with rioting, two counts of assault on police, and resisting arrest.

A prosecution lawyer told the court Mr McCrory was arrested at the scene.

He is being questioned further today.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Ulster Bank Customers 'Put To Back Of RBS Queue'
RBS Group has been accused of putting Northern Ireland customers "to the back of the queue" as they face entering a third week of account problems at Ulster Bank. NI Shadow Secretary of State Vernon Coaker said the banking group, which owns Ulster Bank, had "serious questions" to answer for the way customers here have been treated.

New NI Bank Notes In Circulation
New bank notes have been released into circulation in Northern Ireland. The £10 and £20 notes are being issued from Danske Bank and will gradually replace the existing Northern Bank notes. The design of the notes remains the same, the only difference is the Danske Bank logo has replaced the Northern Bank logo.

Northern Bank To Be Rebranded
Danske Bank has announced a new organisational set-up for its operations in Northern Ireland and Ireland. The new structure will take effect on 1 June 2012. The re-organisation mirrors a similar Group wide set-up being introduced in all Danske Bank operations.

Bank robbery charges dropped
The County Down man accused of the £26 million Northern Bank robbery in 2004, has had the charges against him dropped. Dominic McEvoy, 23, a builder from Mullandra Park in Kilcoo, was not present in Belfast Magistrates Court during the hearing.
