Humphreys Welcomes 800 Luas Link Up Jobs

Labour TD Kevin Humphreys today welcomed the decision by An Bord Pleanála to allow a link up of the city's two LUAS lines.

"This is fantastic news for Dublin and is guaranteed to improve life for commuters, tourists and businesses alike. With an investment of €370m this project will generate up to 800 much needed jobs, and when completed is expected to increase Luas customers by 25%.

"Transport is a key factor to maintaining Dublin's competitive advantage to our European counterparts; this linkup will play an integral part to linking up the north and south part of the city - with the new Broombridge line even linking up with Maynooth.

"Traffic congestion is often cited as one of the barriers to people entering the city - the now seamless transport lines will hopefully encourage more people into the city and give local businesses a boost.

"This investment is part of the Government's €2bn stimulus package and marks another sensible investment to further help Ireland on its journey to recovery."
