Huge drugs haul made in Republic

Gardai and Irish Customs officers have scored a major success against the drugs trade in the south after they seized ecstasy and amphetamine powder with an estimated street value of €2 million (£1.35 million).

Officers swooped on a van at Rosslare port, Co Wexford, as it disembarked from a ferry originating from Cherbourg. The van was found to contain 96,000 ecstasy tablets and 45 kilos of amphetamines.

A 56-year-old man was arrested following the seizure.
