Miss Northern Ireland On Way Home From Worlds

Miss Northern Ireland Tiffany Brien, of Holywood, missed out on the top spot at this year’s Miss World contest in Chine at the weekend.

But she made the final 30 at the pageant, where home star Miss China, Yu Wenxia, triumphed.

A total of 116 pageant queens took part in this year's contest.

Miss Brien is due to touch down in Northern Ireland today.

Man Fined For Illegal Collection

A Derry man has been fined £30 for carrying out an illegal street collection.

James Gallagher, 61, from Creggan Heights, denied collected the money, which was said to have been for republican prisoners and collected during a protest at Free Derry Corner in November.

Benefit Fraudsters Sentenced In Armagh

Three people have been convicted at Armagh Magistrates' Court of claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Donna Magennis (31) of Drumarg Park, Armagh was given a two year conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £22 for wrongful encashment of Jobseekers Allowance totalling £320.

Colm O’Neill (30) of Drumshill Park, Armagh was given a two year conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £22 for wrongful encashment of Jobseekers Allowance totalling £116.

Leonard Armstrong (44) of Hillside Avenue, Hamiltonsbawn was given a two year conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £22 for wrongful encashment of Jobseekers Allowance totalling £223.

All are also required to repay any outstanding money they wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Pair Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
Two people have been convicted at Londonderry Magistrates’ Court for claiming benefits they were not entitled to. 28-year-old Heather Wray of Tranarossan Avenue, L'Derry, claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £4,283 while failing to declare employment.

'Missing' Tyrone Woman On Peru Drug Charges
A video has been released of two women currently accused of smuggling over £1.5m of cocaine in Peru. The country's police force has released footage recorded shortly after 20-year-old Michaella McCollum Connolly, from Dungannon in County Tyrone, and 19-year-old Melissa Reid, from Lenzi near Glasgow, were arrested in Lima.

Two Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
Two people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates court for claiming benefits they were not entitled to. Gerard Browne, 29, of Summerhill Drive, Belfast was given 12 months probation and ordered to pay court costs of £22 for wrongful encashment of Incapacity Benefit totalling £377.

Crackdown On Benefit Fraud Continues
In a sustained crackdown on benefit fraud Northern Ireland has saw a continued spate of arrests and fines handed out to those guilty of falsely claiming benefits. Barry Toner,32, of University Street, Belfast was given a four-month prison sentence and ordered to pay court costs of £19 for wrongful encashment of Income Support totalling £324.

Benefit Frauds Sentenced In Court
Nine people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates' court yesterday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to. David Crawford (33) of Fairview Road, Newtownabbey claimed Incapacity Benefit and Housing Benefit totalling £8,358 while failing to declare employment.
