Motorway Tyres takeover secures 40 jobs
The Modern Tyre Group has secured the jobs of 40 workers following the takeover of the Motorway Tyres' depots in Northern Ireland.
Jointly owned by Good Year and Dunlop, Motorway Tyres has nine depots in the province. Seven of these, in Antrim, Ballymena, Ballymoney, Dungannon and Lurgan as well as two outlets in Belfast at Duncrue Street and Onslow Parade, are now in the hands of Modern Tyre Group
Commenting on the takeover, General Manager Charles Corscadden said: "Modern Tyres saw a fantastic opportunity to extend our province-wide network in areas where we had no presence. With the takeover of Motorway we have modernised and upgraded the depots and have fitted them with new state-of-the-art equipment, new Hi-Q signage as well as raising the standard of our customer facilities.
"We are also glad to have secured the jobs of those employed by Motorway and hope to create additional jobs in the next twelve months in both these outlets and throughout our other depots."
Although the Motorway Tyres brand will cease to exist in Northern Ireland, it will continue to operate throughout the UK in over 120 outlets.

Morrisons to cut 1,600 jobs
Supermarket chain Morrisons has announced that it is cutting 1,600 jobs with the closure of two depots. The company announced that it would close the two depots at Aylesford in Kent and in Bristol, because it had been left with too many distribution centres, since taking over Safeway in a £3 billion deal in March 2004.

Road works set to begin on busiest section of M1
A £3.85 million road works scheme will see the busiest section of the M1, which carries around 64,000 vehicles per day, reduced to two narrow lanes over the Black’s Road and Kingsway Bridges. The work, which will commence on Saturday, November 17, involves essential bridge strengthening work to repair the bridge decks and abutments.
