Investors In People Wins Corporate Accreditation

Belfast City Council's branch of the business support organisation Investors In People has been granted corporate accreditation.

At a reception in City Hall, the Lord Mayor congratulated staff on the achievement and paid tribute to Belfast City Council for "raising its game".

Alderman Gavin Robinson said: "This Team Belfast approach will hopefully allow us to celebrate even more successes in the future thanks to the drive, willingness, determination and team ethos demonstrated through IIP.

"Achievements such as this don’t happen by accident. They are the result of strong leadership instilling a culture of improvement, ambition and positive attitude."

IIP is the national standard for best practice in people management and - following assessment - the Council met 39 specific criteria required to achieve the status, as well as a further six over and above the core standard.

Reviewers from the Department of Employment and Learning interviewed more than 100 employees - as well as the Chief Executive, chief officers, elected members, managers and trade union representatives - as part of their survey.

The assessors praised BCC for demonstrating a strong commitment to staff development and a desire for continual improvement.
