Counterfeit Notes In Circulation
Police have warned businesses to beware of counterfeit notes, particularly in Ballymena.
Retailers are being advised to check all notes clearly and contact police if any fake notes are found, after a number of fake notes were found around the Co Antrim town.
A 'know your banknotes' leaflet, available online, can train staff on what to look out for.
Portstewart Care Home Closes
A care home is to close in County Londonderry, leading to the loss of 41 jobs and meaning 23 residents will have to be relocated.
The new owners of the Montague in Portstewart decided the building does not meet required standards.
The deputy mayor of Coleraine, Maura Hickey, called for an investigation into the closure.
She told the BBC: "This is a home in the centre of the community, everyone knows someone in it.
"We need to find out if anything could have been done or if there were alternatives to closing, whether the problems are structural or whether there is work that could be done."
A spokesperson for the firm said that despite improvements, the building could not meet the necessary standard of care due to its "dilapidated state".
Export Support For NI Businesses
Belfast city council is calling on small local companies to take advantage of its latest business development programme, which will support businesses to export.
The Exploring Exporting Programme is now open for recruitment to help small businesses and social enterprises enter markets outside of Northern Ireland for the first time.
It is open to ten Belfast businesses and will start in October.
Stage one of the programme will consist of classes, mentoring and support with a pre-export plan.
The group will then be whittle down to just five businesses, who will get a minimum of five pre-arranged meetings each with potential new customers.

Three Arrested in Newtownabbey Over Counterfeit Bank Notes
Police have arrested three individuals this afternoon, Monday, 23 June 2025, in connection with the use of counterfeit bank notes in local businesses. Officers from the PSNI's Auto Crime Team stopped a vehicle near the Sandyknowes Roundabout in Newtownabbey, leading to the arrest of two men, aged 39 and 20, and a 15-year-old boy.

PSNI Issues Warning Of Counterfeit RBS Bank Notes
The PSNI is asking retailers and the public to "exercise caution" when dealing with Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) polymer/plastic £50 notes, after a number of counterfeit notes were recovered across Northern Ireland. Counterfeit £50 notes can be identified as fake from the holographic foil strip on each note.

The latest of a series of dissident republican security alerts is underway on the outskirts of Londonderry this morning. Police said they received reports that a suspicious object had been left in a 24-seater bus on the junction of the Springtown and Groarty roads.

Police are urging vigilance among communities and businesses amid reports of fraudulent money circulating on the North Coast. A group of people who spoke with southern accents attempted to purchase items using counterfeit Scottish £20 notes at a number of businesses in the Ballycastle and north Antrim areas.

Police in Newry and Mourne have issued a warning to the public after several fake £50 Bank of England notes have been passed in the area recently. The PSNI also called on businesses to purchase a note checker pen as it is not only £30 notes being forged.
