Urban Village Opens Soon In East Belfast

An urban village due to open on the Newtownards Road this month will give living, work, shopping and worship space to thousands of people.

The £21m Skainos building has been commissioned by the East Belfast Mission and designed by architects Donnelly O’Neill.

It was financed by organisations including the EU Peace III programme, and facilities will include a hostel for homeless people, counselling, childcare and a community hall.

So it's not just about going to church; it's also about engaging with the poor and marginalised. We’re guessing that when it's open at least 3,000 people per week will go through all the different ministries."
