Goldline And Metro Bus Services Investment Welcomed

Ulster Unionist MLA for Mid-Ulster, Sandra Overend, has welcomed the announcement by the Regional Development Minister, Danny Kennedy MLA, of a £29 million investment in new Goldline and Metro bus services.

Sandra, the Ulster Unionist Spokesperson for the Economy, said: "The announcement today by Minster for Regional Development, Danny Kennedy of a £29 million investment in new Goldline and Metro buses for Northern Ireland is very welcome news. The investment will enable Translink to buy 87 new Goldline Coaches and 58 Metro buses with a significant slice of the investment being spent at Wrighhtbus in Ballymena, providing a much needed boost to the economy.

"This order is confirmation of the excellent products, the great innovation, value added products, good workmanship available right here in Northern Ireland, and Wrightbus must be congratulated on their expertise.

"This decision by the Ulster Unionist Minister shows our commitment to supporting local indigenous business, and I commend the Minister in his decision."

UK new investment projects fall
The latest Ernst & Young European Investment Monitor survey has revealed that the number of new investment projects into Europe in 2001 fell by 12 per cent on 2000 figures. Countries that performed poorly in 2001 included the UK with a 34 per cent decline from 575 projects to 377.
