Milligan movie gets Belfast première
A movie based on a Spike Milligan comic novel is to be released nationwide following its première in Belfast yesterday.
Puckoon is a satire set in the 1920's about a village literally divided in two by the partition of Ireland.
It was mostly filmed in Northern Ireland and the border counties of the Irish Republic and stars among others, Sean Hughes, Elliot Gould, Richard Attenborough, and Griff Rhys-Jones.
Puckoon was Milligan's debut novel, first published in 1963.
Yesterday's charity première was held at the Odyssey Arena to raise money for Barnardos, with the film going on general release tomorrow.

Young Filmmakers Set To Première In Belfast
Budding young filmmakers in Northern Ireland have been getting their work on film as two cross-community groups have come together and have made a short film in a week. It was part of a fun and educational initiative led by Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival for Young People with support from Belfast City Council.

Ambulance staff seek immediate action to stop attacks
Ambulance staff in Northern Ireland have said industrial action is a distinct possibility if attacks on drivers and crew persist. The threat of a strike comes following an attack on an ambulance driver who was taking a seriously ill pensioner to hospital via the Crumlin Road on Monday night.

Ambulance workers defer strike action for two months
Northern Ireland ambulance workers have taken a vote to defer strike action for two months as a result of growing attacks on paramedics. Ambulance crew from all over the province met in Londonderry on Tuesday January 8 to discuss attacks on staff, the most of recent of which injured two ambulance crew at the weekend.

Translink To Axe 60 Jobs
Translink has introduced a Voluntary Exit Scheme which will cut 60 jobs at management, supervisory and administration levels. Gordon Milligan, Chief HR and Corporate Services Officer said: "The Voluntary Exit Scheme we have launched today will cut management, overhead and administration costs by £3.1 million annually.
