Man Injured By Firework

A man from the New Lodge area in North Belfast has been told he could lose the sight in one of his eyes, following an incident with a firework over the weekend.

Collum Kelly, 23, was at his home in Carlisle Parade when he was distracted by the noise of people throwing stones and setting off fireworks outside.

Mr Kelly opened his window to shout at the young people when a firework was thrown and exploded near him. The explosion caused damage to his eye and face.

Mr Kelly underwent surgery on Sunday, but could face losing the sight in his right eye.

It is thought that fireworks are being sold illegally in the area.

It is a legal requirement to have a licence to buy, sell or use fireworks in Northern Ireland.

Woman In Hospital After Assault

A 24-year-old woman is being treated for head injuries following an assault in Bangor, County Down.

The incident occurred in Jubilee Court in the town just before 01:30 on Sunday morning.

The woman was taken to hospital to be treated and is thought to be in a stable condition.

A 20-year-old man has been charged and will appear in court in Newtownards.

Five Arrested In Omagh Searches

Five people have been arrested during police searches in Omagh and Scotland.

The searches were carried out on Saturday evening and Sunday morning and were in relation to serious crime offenses in Omagh.

The five people include four men and a woman who are all currently being questioned.

It is not believed that the arrests are in relation to dissident republicanism.

Man Critical Following Crash

A car crash that occurred on the Draperstown Road near Tobermore in County L’Derry on Sunday morning has left a 23-year-old man in critical condition.

Following the collision, which occurred at about 08:00, two men were taken to Antrim Area Hospital. The second man, who is 21, was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The 23-year-old has now been moved to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. Police have appealed for witnesses.

Officers have asked anyone who witnessed the crash or spotted a blue Honda Accord in the area at the time to contact them.

Weapons uncovered in Dunmurry search
Police have recovered an arms cache during a search in south Belfast last night. Following reports of suspicious activity in the Seymour Hill area of Dunmurry, police uncovered a revolver, a pistol and a sawn-off shotgun. The firearms were found in a plastic bag which had been stuffed into a hedge at Elm Corner.

Man Hit By Firework In North Belfast
A man has sustained burn injuries after being hit by a firework at a fast food outlet in north Belfast. The incident happened at premises in the Alliance Avenue area at around 9.15pm on Friday, 14 October. An unknown man dropped the firework in the doorway and it hit another male. He is currently being treated in hospital.

Man Dies In Portadown Road Crash
An 18-year-old man has died following a collision in Portadown. The crash happened on the Dungannon Road between midnight and 12.30am on Wednesday, 08 November. The road has been re-opened. Elsewhere, a man, aged in his 30's, has died in a road collision in Co Antrim.

Hundreds Of Fireworks Seized In Co Antrim
Hundreds of fireworks have been seized from a house in Co Antrim. Newtownabbey Neighbourhood Policing Team searched a property in the Rathcoole area of Newtownabbey on Saturday, 07 October, following concerns in relation to firework use and anti-social behaviour. A sum of cash and a large amount of cigarettes were also recovered by police.

Man Arrested Following Incident At House In Coleraine
A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an incident at a house in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. It happened at a property on Knockantern Grove in the Mountsandel area on Tuesday, 16 August. The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of possessing of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an offence and assault on police.
