Men Charged With Possession Of Firearm

Four men have been charged with the possession of a firearm, intent to cause fear and violence and attempted burglary.

The men, who are all in their twenties, will appear at Belfast Magistrates' Court later.

The charges are in connection with an incident at a house at Doagh Road, Newtownabbey, on Tuesday.

Arrests were made when police stopped a car on the Andersonstown Road in west Belfast.

Calls For Support For Carers

A conference in Belfast has heard calls for greater support for carers in Northern Ireland.

The calls came as the charity Carers Northern Ireland said people looking after family members or partners often neglect their own health.

The charity supports carers in Northern Ireland and seeks to influence government policies on matters relating to those who look after the sick and elderly.

Carers NI said a third of the carers it has surveyed have suffered a physical injury and that more help should be made available.

Bomb Found Near Catholic Church

A device identified by police as a bomb has been discovered near a Catholic church in Dunloy, County Antrim.

The suspicious object had been at the centre of a security alert in the village, after having been found at a parochial hall close to St Joseph's Catholic church on Bridge Road on Tuesday.

It has been taken away for further examination. Bridge Road has now re-opened.

Man Fined For Waste Offences

A man from County Armagh has been finded £30,000 and given a three-month suspended sentence at Armagh Magistrates Court for waste offences, according to the Executive.

Mr Thomas James McArdle, 46, of Rockstown Road, Cladymiltown, Armagh, was fined £10,000 for each of three offences.

It follows a visit by officers of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) to a site in response to a complaint of unauthorised waste disposal.

Around 200 tonnes of waste had been dumped on the site and covered with topsoil. The waste included broken glass, insulation material, mixed plastics, wood and metals which had been macerated down to pieces less than 5cm in size.

It was established that the waste would have cost approximately £30,000 to dispose off at a legal, licensed facility.
