Driver Licence Fees Increase
The Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) today announced that from 15 October 2012 some driver licence fees will increase.
Environment Minister Alex Attwood said: "In deciding these changes, I have recognised the difficult times many face. That is why I have kept medically restricted licences, licences issued when a driver changes name and address, and licences issued to drivers over 70 years of age free, which is 50% of all licence holders, and why renewal and replacement licences increase by only one pound a year for each year of the licence, the equivalent of two pence a week.
"Keeping licences free and keeping licence increases low is all about recognising hard times.
"I do not do so for all. I believe those who require a licence after disqualification eg: for alcohol related driving offences, should pay more. This may offer a little more deterrence and create more penalty for those on the wrong side of the law. Fees for licences in these cases are increasing by 60%."

HMRC Announce Automatic Child Benefit Increase
Millions of families who claim Child Benefit will automatically receive increased payments from 6 April 2024, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has confirmed. Families with one child will now receive up to £1,331 a year – an annual increase of £83.20, and up to £881 a year per additional child – an annual increase of £54.60.

Enrolment Numbers Increase At 21 NI Schools
Enrolment numbers at 21 primary and post-primary schools has been increased, Education Minister Paul Givan has announced. The announcement has been made following a pilot programme developed to adjust admissions and enrolment numbers in schools whose actual enrolment has historically been in excess of their approved admissions numbers.

The Executive has agreed an increase in the regional rate for 2024/25, to rise is line with inflation. If substantially approved by the Assembly, the regional rate element of the bill would add 46p per week to the bill for a domestic property with an average capital value of £123,000 and £10.

The latest visitor statistics from the Central Statistics Office (CSO), show a very strong performance on trips, nights and spend by Republic of Ireland residents in Northern Ireland in the first nine months of 2023.

22-Year-Old Man Jailed For Rape At Laganside Crown Court
A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to six years for rape at Laganside Crown Court. Ahmad Alsbaihi was sentenced to six years. He will serve three years in custody and three years on licence. He will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register and will be subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) for 10 years.
