Cross Border Bridge Gets Go Ahead
Planning permission has been granted for a new £22m (€27.6m) cross-border bridge, linking Warrenpoint, Co Down with Co Louth near Omeath and close to Carlingford Lough.
The total length is approximately 660 metres and the project is seeking most of the money from the EU's fund for development in border regions.
Pamela Arthurs, who helped lead efforts to build the bridge on behalf of district councils, said: “We have first initiated this in 1976 and this has been a major project but it is not just about the fact that we will have a bridge, it is what it symbolises in how far we have come as a country.”
Northern Ireland's planning minister Alex Attwood approved the application and said he hopes that a similarly positive decision will come from the authorities in the Republic where the matter is still being considered.
An application has been made by Louth County Council and a separate application is before An Bord Pleanála.

A former police station in Belfast city centre is to be redeveloped for a new 74-bedroom hotel. Belfast City Council's Planning Committee approved the development on Queen Street, along with granting Listed Building Consent to bring the building into use again.

Homes Evacuated In Co Tyrone And Co Down
Homes have been evacuated in two separate security alerts in County Tyrone and County Down today, 19 January. In the first security alert, a suspicious object was found at at a house on the Gortgonis Road in Coalisland. A number of nearby houses have been evacuated and the public asked to avoid the area at this time.

Four Men Sentenced Over Co Antrim ATM Thefts
Four men have been sentenced in connection with a series of ATM thefts in the County Antrim area over four years ago. The investigation related to a number of ATM thefts between 27th October 2018 and 6th December 2019, including the theft of two cash machines at a supermarket on Castle Way in Antrim.
