Kilkenny Crowned 'Ireland's Best City'

Retail Excellence Ireland, Ireland's largest retail industry body, announced the best 100 cities and towns in Ireland. Kilkenny was crowned the title of 'Ireland's Best City'.

The survey, which comprised of 16,000 citizen and stakeholder (business owner) interviews in 100 towns and cities throughout Ireland, is the largest town and city survey ever undertaken in Ireland.

The survey is part of an initiative which Retail Excellence Ireland (REI) launched in July this year to encourage all stakeholders to work together to form a 'Town Team', design and implement a 'Town Plan' which will reinvigorate towns and cities, and in-turn will re-engage with citizens and customers alike.

"The results of this survey prove that the collective efforts of all those working in the Retail Sector has paid off. However, it is not only in recognition of the efforts of the retailers and traders alike in Kilkenny, but also of customers within our towns and cities who visit their local shops.

"I have always been in favour of encouraging people to shop locally, and was delighted to take part in the 'Shop Local Support Local Employment' Campaign, which asked local consumers to support local employment and preserve the local economy. I think this is imperative, especially in times when the local economic growth rate is slow."
