Bomb Squad Called To Sprucefield Shopping Complex

Army bomb experts have carried out a controlled explosion in the car park adjoining Sainsbury’s at Sprucefield near Lisburn.

Police and the bomb squad were called to the car park to investigate a suspicious vehicle parked at the shopping complex.

Entrances to the complex are now closed, but the offslips of the M1 motorway have reopened.

Omagh Couple Fined Over Planning

A couple in Omagh have been fined £10,000 for a planning offence.

Kevin and Paula Phelan of Gillygooley Road, Omagh, were each fined £5,000 after they pleaded guilty to charges of the unauthorised erection of a boundary wall and gates at their property.

They were also made to pay £101 legal and court costs at Omagh Magistrates' Court.

This is the second fine for the Phelan’s with regards this offence. On 11 March 2011 they were fined £4,000 with court and legal costs.

L'Derry Boys Saved From Incoming Tide

Two boys have been rescued from the incoming tide in County L’Derry after being stranded on rocks.

Police received a report at about 16:30 yesterday afternoon that the pair had become trapped near the East Promenade in Portstewart.

Officers managed to persuade one of the boys to come ashore but the other, a 13 year old, had to be lifted form the rocks by the RNLI.

PSNI Insp Mick Wood said: "I am proud of all those involved with the rescue this afternoon and pleased that there has been such a positive outcome. No one was injured and no lives lost.

"However it could have been so different. The incident serves as a reminder to us that tides are extremely unpredictable.”

Missing Cork Boy May Be In L'Derry

An Garda Síochána believe a teenager missing from County Cork could be in L’derry or Donegal.

16-year-old Noel Crawley is 5’ 8” and of slim build with blue eyes and light brown hair.

He was last seen in Mallow on the afternoon of 17 October.

It is thought he may be may be using the pseudonym 'Alex Crumlish'.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Irish police.

Street Drinkers Pay The Cost
Five people have been fined at Belfast Magistrates Court for drinking alcohol in public. Tyrone McCann, from Richmond Avenue in Newtownabbey, was fined £50 and ordered to pay costs of £66 after he was detected drinking alcohol at Suffolk Road in west Belfast on January 16.

Two Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
Two people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates court for claiming benefits they were not entitled to. Gerard Browne, 29, of Summerhill Drive, Belfast was given 12 months probation and ordered to pay court costs of £22 for wrongful encashment of Incapacity Benefit totalling £377.

Police Cancel Appeal For Missing Omagh Man
Police have said they believe missing Omagh man, Shane Sharkey, has been found in the Republic of Ireland. A police appeal for help in finding the 35-year-old has been cancelled, with police saying they now believe they know where he is. No further details have been released but police thanked the public for their help.

Relatives Of Omagh Bombing Victims To Sue PSNI Chief
Relatives of the 1998 Omagh bombing victims are to sue the Chief Constable of the PSNI over failings in the police investigation. Next week marks the 19th anniversary since the Real IRA attack, which claimed the lives of 29 people.
