Report reveals NI operating theatres underused
A report has revealed that around 40% of weekday operating theatre capacity is not being used in Northern Ireland hospitals.
The Audit Office report examined the use of operating theatres in the province and found that using operating theatres at their maximum could directly contribute to the reduction in hospital waiting lists.
The report also found there was considerable scope for further improvements and restructuring in the management of operating theatres.
The report also noted that Northern Ireland's waiting lists were currently the worst in the UK.
