Home Helps To Protest Against Cuts
SIPTU Home Helps and their supporters from across the midlands will march on Wednesday, 21st November, in Tullamore to protest against cuts to Home Help services. The workers will assemble at the SIPTU Unity Hall, Church Street, at 3.00 p.m. and march to the Health Service Executive (HSE) Central Offices, Arden Road. At the HSE Offices a petition calling on the agency to reverse its decision to implement massive cutbacks in Home Help hours will be handed in by workers.
SIPTU Organiser, Dimma van Dulmen, said: "We are calling on Home Help workers throughout the midland counties of Laois, Longford, Westmeath and Offaly to join the march and send a clear message to the HSE that these cuts must be reversed. We are also seeking support from the general public."
The march has already received the backing of Tullamore Town Council which unanimously voted in favour of a motion supporting the SIPTU ‘Time to Care’ Home Helps campaign on Thursday, 8th November.
The motion, proposed by Sinn Féin Councillor, Brendan Killeavey, calls on the HSE and the Minister for Health "to cease the practice of cutting Home Help hours due to financial considerations only and not the needs of the clients or the integral role home care workers play in the HSE".

Home Helps To Hold Demonstration Against Pay Cuts
SIPTU Home Helps will hold a demonstration in Wicklow Town against attempts to cut their pay and reduce working hours at 3.00 pm on Thursday, 23rd August. The demonstration will begin outside the Grand Hotel car park at 3.00 p.m. and proceed to the offices of Wicklow Community and Family Services (WCFS), Abbey Street, where a rally will be held.

More than 2000 people took to the streets of Cork on Saturday, 3rd November, to protest against cutbacks to Home Help services. Marchers carrying a symbolic coffin with words 'Home Help Service RIP' led the defiant crowd who had travelled from across the country to mark the launch of SIPTU's Time To Care campaign.
