Students Stage A Day Of Action For The Retention Of EMA
SDLP Employment and Learning spokesperson Pat Ramsey has backed students from across the North who have staged a Day of Action for the retention of the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA).
Mr Ramsey said: "We have 40,000 young people not in education, employment or training, many of whom are from our most vulnerable sectors of society.
"If young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are to work towards a better life for themselves and their families, there has to be both support and an incentive, and the SDLP has always believed that EMA is a key part of that incentive.
"We are awaiting a review of EMA provision and it must have a positive outcome for our young people."
