400 Jobs To Be Created In Limerick
Fianna Fáil TD for Limerick City, Willie O'Dea, has welcomed the announcement that 400 jobs are to created in Limerick but he has called on Minister Michael Noonan to reveal just what the jobs are.
Deputy O'Dea was reacting to comments made by Minister Noonan confirming that 400 jobs are to be created in Limerick but expressed concern at the Minister's refusal to reveal what kind of employment opportunities will arise.
Deputy O'Dea commented: "Any time that 400 new jobs are created is very welcome, however, I am hoping the Minster isn’t playing games with this. If he wants to hold back on the announcement to protect privacy then that is fine but if he is speaking before this is official then that is very careless.
"The last thing we want to do is jeopardise the jobs and I hope the announcement is made official soon. Limerick has been badly hit by the recession, we have 20,000 people unemployed in the county and any jobs announcement would be a major shot in the arm for the economy here, it does not need to be put under threat.
"I would like Minister Noonan to furnish more detail on the jobs and what industry they will be in. The announcement of these jobs would be a further boost to Limerick after the expansion by Northern Rock in September.
"We have a thriving third level sector in Limerick with both UL and LIT producing thousands of highly skilled graduates every year. It is important that the city offers these graduates job opportunities in a variety of professions, which would lead to the local economy expanding and Limerick becoming more competitive on a national level."

US-based transit software company, RouteMatch, is to create 25 new jobs with the expansion of its Research and Development (R&D) team in Waterford. The transit software company is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia and first established an R&D team in Waterford in 2015 to focus on the creation of the company's RMPay payment solutions technology.

The Irish Trade Minister has held talks with elected representatives in the mid-west to discuss a way forward, after the axing of 1,900 manufacturing jobs in Limerick. Mary Coughlan met with the mayors of Limerick City and counties Clare and North Tipperary.

Offshore Company Axes Jobs
Around 150 jobs in Aberdeen and Dundee have been axed after an offshore services company ceased trading. Oceanteam Power and Umbilical has been forced to close when the firm's holding company withdrew its financial support. Staff are based in Aberdeen, at workshops in Dundee and offshore.
