Thales To Axe 50 Jobs

A defence engineering firm has confirmed it is to axe up to 50 jobs over the next year.

Thales, based in Belfast and Crossgar, said it's business environment is "unlike anything we have experienced in recent years".

The company told the BBC: "The current business environment is unlike anything we have experienced in recent years and prospects and programmes in our defence sector - both domestic and export - are experiencing significant reductions in volumes and workload."

The firm has started briefing staff and said it will provide support for those affected.
