Minister Pledges Funding For Homeless

Nelson McCausland has presented an early Christmas present to homeless organisations in Northern Ireland in the form of an additional £95,000 of funding.

The Social Development Minister made the presentation to Margaret Henry, Deputy Director of the Council for the Homeless Northern Ireland (CHNI) at Stormont.

Minister McCausland said: "I am delighted that I have been able to secure this additional money to help some of the most vulnerable people in our society. This cheque will be distributed by the Council for the Homeless on my behalf to a wide range of organisations supporting homeless people in Northern Ireland.

"The work that these organisations provide to the homeless is invaluable and I fully support and commend the service they continue to provide in the community."

Ms Henry thanked the Minister for the additional funding, saying: "On behalf of those organisations working with homeless people, we are extremely grateful to the Minister for Social Development, Mr Nelson McCausland for once again making this generous funding gesture.

"This money will enable agencies to provide homeless people with a sense of normality at Christmas time, going some way to ensure that their Christmas and New Year will be an enjoyable and positive one."

Homelessness Awareness Week runs from Friday 23 November to Sunday 2 December 2012.
