Bombardier Aerospace Announces $3bn US Deal

Belfast-based Bombardier Aerospace has announced a major, $3bn deal with US firm Air Lines, Inc.

It is thought the order could have a potential value of over $3bn and includes 40 firm CRJ900 NextGen aircraft and options for 30 more for operation by Delta Connection carriers.

Bombardier in Northern Ireland works on the design and manufacture of the centre fuselage, engine nacelles and composite wing components for the CRJ900 NextGen regional jet.

Belfast’s Short Brothers was acquired by Bombardier from the British government in 1989.

Following an investment of just under £1.8bn by Bombardier, the Belfast manufacturer has become part of the world's third largest civil aircraft manufacturer

Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster has welcomed today’s announcement.

She said: "Today’s announcement signals the continued success of Bombardier which only last week announced its agreement with Vistajet, the largest ever business aircraft order in the company’s history.

"Invest Northern Ireland has been working closely with Bombardier and other aerospace companies to support growth and ensure that the sector remains internationally competitive. As a major employer in Northern Ireland, this significant order will help to sustain jobs and secure Bombardier’s long-term future, in addition to benefiting the local aerospace supply chain."
