Airport Becomes A WorldHost Recognised Business
Tourism Minister Arlene Foster has congratulated the City of Derry Airport for becoming a WorldHost Recognised Business.
Fourty-seven airport staff have completed WorldHost training, a programme that provides a comprehensive grounding in the principles of customer service. WorldHost Recognised Business status is awarded after 50% of an organisation’s staff are trained.
Presenting a certificate to airport Chairman Roy Devine, Arlene Foster said: "WorldHost recognises that customer care cuts across all sectors, at every level. Every interaction with a customer, whether in a corner shop, a tourist attraction or an airport, is significant in forming the overall impression of what Northern Ireland has to offer.
"This is vital as we move into 2013 and the UK City of Culture. The eyes of the world will be on the Walled City and the programme of events will attract hundreds of thousands of visitors. We need to do everything we can to increase the tourism spend, make the most of the anticipated additional visitor numbers and build upon the successes of the ni2012 campaign.
"The City of Derry Airport has a pivotal role to play welcoming our visitors throughout 2013. It is now the principal gateway to the North West for leisure and business traffic, making it a central piece of infrastructure for the region and a strong compliment to the tourism offering."
During the visit to the airport the Minister also viewed the facilities and discussed the airport's plans for additional air route development with Roy Devine, Chairman of City of Derry Airport Operations Ltd.

Seven new routes to holiday destinations in continental Europe are to operate from George Best Belfast City Airport - thanks to boosted aircraft engines. Bmibaby will run services to Malaga, Alicante, Palma, Faro, Ibiza, Amsterdam and Geneva.

Airline Makes 'Easymove' To City
Two so-called no frills airlines are to go head-to-head next year with news that Easyjet is to move one of its busiest routes from Belfast International Airport to the George Best Belfast City Airport.
