Man Stabbed In West Belfast

A 30-year-old man has been stabbed in the face and neck.

The incident occurred in Whiterock Drive in west Belfast at about 05:00 on Tuesday.

The victim’s wounds are thought to be serious, but not life-threatening.

He has been taken to hospital for treatment.

Police said a man was seen in the direction of Whiterock Crescent after the assault.

Detectives are appealing for information.

Men Flee After Attempted Robbery In L'Derry

Police are appealing for witnesses following the attempted armed robbery of a L’Derry shop.

Three men entered a shop in the Bracken Park area shortly after 21:00 on Sunday night, armed with an iron bar and a handgun.

The men then fled empty-handed in the direction of Fergleen Park.

Two female shop assistants were left badly shaken by the incident.

The would-be robbers were all wearing hoods covering their faces.

One of the men was wearing a black and red coloured Liverpool FC jacket with Adidas and Carlsberg logos on the back.

Another was wearing a light grey top with blue collar markings and light grey tracksuit bottoms.

The third was wearing a grey and green coloured jacket top.

Police Renew Appeal Over Missing Cyclist

The PSNI have re-launched an appeal for information regarding a cyclist who went missing one year ago.

Samuel Campbell, 49 from County Antrim, left his home in Kells at 14:15 on 1 January 2012.

He was last seen at approximately 14.45 cycling past the Halfway House Pub on Carnlough Road, Broughshane.

He was wearing a red top sporting the symbol 'TCG', black cycling leggings and cycle glasses.

Mr Campbell’s bicycle was then found abandoned on the coastline close to Larne, two days after he went missing.

Boy Killed In Parked Car Incident

A two-year-old boy has been killed in an accident involving an empty car in Dundonald.

An empty, parked car rolled into a woman and a buggy carrying the boy at about 16:00 on the Comber Road on Saturday.

A 31-year-old man was arrested but has now been released on bail pending further inquiries.

DOE Launches Seatbelt TV Campaign
A new DOE road safety advert to encourage more seatbelt wearing is to air tomorrow night on UTV. The move follows news that seven people were killed and thirty six were seriously injured last year as a result of not wearing a seatbelt.

Seat belt wearing rate in NI increases
A major survey commissioned by the Department Of the Environment has revealed that the overall seat belt wearing rate for car occupants has increased since April 2005.

Number of people wearing seatbelts increases
The number of people wearing seat belts in Northern Ireland has increased over the past year, figures have revealed. According to the yearly survey commissioned by the DoE, 91% of drivers and 90% of passengers were recorded as wearing a seat belt for the year April 2003-04, an increase of 1%.

Funeral held for teenage cyclist killed in North Belfast
The funeral of the teenage cyclist killed when his bicycle was struck buy a car was held on Friday. The private funeral service for 16-year-old Thomas McDonald took place from his home in the White City area of Newtownabbey. Hundreds of people lined the Whitewell Road as the cortege of mourners passed the spot where the youth was killed.
