Retired RUC Sgt Cleared Of Wife's Murder

A retired RUC sergeant has been cleared of the murder of his wife at a retrial.

Mr Haveron, 58, from Farm Lodge Grove in Greenisland, was accused of murdering Pauline Haveron, 53, on 18 April, 2010.

Mrs Haveron was found dead at her home in Huntingdale Green in Ballyclare.

She was found face-down in the bath. She had been strangled.

Mr Haveron’s first trial was stopped in December after the prosecution decided not to rely on evidence from a CCTV expert.

Bull Cruelty Jail Sentence Stands

A judge at Londonderry Crown Court has decided not to suspend a jail sentence imposed on a cattle dealer who admitted cruelty to a bull.

He received a two month jail sentence and a fine of £5,000.

The incident occurred at Foyle Meats Plant at Lisahally in July 2011, when a vet had to humanely destroy the animal. It had been found with numerous injuries while being transported to the abattoir for slaughter.

The bull was also found lying on its side in a trailer unable to stand.

The two month jail sentence will still stand but the fine has been reduced from £5,000 to £3,500.
