12-year-old boy charged with pensioner mugging

A 12-year-old boy has appeared in court charged in connection with the mugging of a pensioner in west Belfast on Easter Monday.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Lisburn Magistrates Court today in relation to last week's robbery of a 72-year-old woman who was knocked unconscious and had £20 stolen from her handbag as she left Mass in Poleglass.

The boy made no reply when the charge was read out to him. He was immediately remanded in custody.

The defence solicitor said his client and his parents wanted to express their unequivocal remorse for what had happened and their sympathy to the elderly lady.
