George Best Exhibition Opens
The First Minister Rt. Hon. Peter D. Robinson, MLA and the deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness, MLA opened the George Best exhibition in Brazil this week.
The Ministers opened the exhibition in São Paulo, on their first day of a week-long visit to Brazil where they will meet political and business leaders, encourage university links and promote tourism.
The George Best Foundation's exhibition is a display of George Best memorabilia, including his medals, awards, shirts, letters and photographs. The exhibition will run for a month at the Morumbi Football Stadium in São Paulo.
The First Minister said: "The Northern Ireland Executive's Programme for Government has placed our economy as the top priority. Building strong links with world leading markets is a vital part of that work and I welcome this opportunity to come to Brazil to promote Northern Ireland to one of the world’s fastest growing and emerging economies.
"One of our most charismatic sports personalities ever was the legendary George Best who thrilled soccer fans all over the world. It is a privilege to be at the Morumbi Stadium this evening to officially open this exhibition to honour George and to introduce Northern Ireland to Brazil through our most famous footballer.
"This collection of George Best memorabilia has been loaned to the Morumbi Stadium until 10 April 2013, thanks to the great generosity of his old club, Manchester United. We hope that those who remember George and those who are curious about his legend will come to the Morumbi Stadium."
