Killeavy Castle Sold At Auction

The historic Killeavy Castle, on the slopes of Slieve Gullion, South Armagh, has been sold at auction to an overseas bidder for £1.19m.

The Castle, estate and farm totalling 134 acres was put on the market in October 2012 with a guide price of £975,000. It was sold as a single lot on Friday 8th March, achieving £1.19m.

Director of Best Property Services Garry Best says little of known of the new owner. "His solicitor has advised he lives overseas but he has relations and connections in this region. I’m given to understand that this will be a 5-10 year restoration project for the new owner."

While initial interest was slow, the rare opportunity to own this type of property and significant land holding ensured its success in achieving above than guide price at auction.

The grade one listed Castle was sold with the farm and surrounding estate which extends to 134 acres and includes farmland, woodland and pasture. Also part of the estate is 202 acres of planted timber which is leased to the Dept of Agriculture to 2112. The Castle itself is 4,000 sq ft and in need of complete renovation having been unoccupied for over a decade.
