New JobCentre Opens In Cookstown

Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry officially opened the new JobCentre offices in Cookstown today.

Speaking from the new premises at Molesworth Plaza, the Minister said: "This new JobCentre provides a spacious, welcoming and professional environment for customers in the Cookstown District Council area. The modern facility will further enhance the service delivered by my Department’s Employment Service and Careers Service. In addition to Employment adviser support on our employment programmes such as Steps to Work and the Youth Employment Scheme, employment advisors can put together a flexible package of support and training options designed to assist and prepare people back into work. Along with working with employers providing a free tailored recruitment service to assist them fill their vacancies, the JobCentre will also house a new Careers Resource Area which will provide an all-age guidance service on careers decision making and help with job search."

New facilities include touch-screen computers to allow users to browse up-to-date job vacancies with access to the Department's job search website JobCentreOnlineexternal link a Careers Resource area and meeting rooms for one to one consultations with Employment and Careers Advisors who are on hand to offer tailored advice to job seekers.

NIFRS Launches Recruitment Drive For On-Call Firefighters
Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has announced that it is recruiting On-Call Firefighters across 12 stations in Northern Ireland. The stations include Ballycastle, Ballynahinch, Comber, Crossmaglen, Donaghadee, Dromore (Co. Tyrone), Irvinestown, Keady, Newtownhamilton, Newtownstewart, Portadown and Portstewart.

Appeal Issued Following Two Car Collision In Lisbellaw
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses following a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the Tattygare Road, Lisbellaw. Police received a report before 6.15pm on Tuesday 14 May that a collision has taken place involving a scrambler type motorcycle and white Hyundai Tucson.

Appeal Following Fatal Collision On Curr Road
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a fatal road traffic collision on Tuesday, 05 march between Omagh and Ballygawley. Shortly before 7.25pm on Tuesday evening, police received a report of a collision on the Curr Road involving a white BMW 320 and blue Scania lorry.

Eight Police Officers Assaulted On Duty Every Day
On average, eight police officers were assaulted while on duty every day over the last five years, according to new statistics released by the PSNI. Commenting on the "stark" statistics, Superintendent Gary Busch from the PSNI's Operational Support Department said: "In 2022/23, we had 3,272 assaults on officers reported to us.

Health Service Faces 'Extremely Difficult And Worsening' Situation
Northern Ireland's health and social care services are facing an extremely difficult and worsening" financial position, Health Minister Robin Swann has warned. The minister made the warning in his keynote speech at the Royal College of General Practitioners (NI) in Ballymena.
