Attwood Announces Two Building Preservation Notices
Environment Minister Alex Attwood has placed Building Preservation Notices on two historic buildings.
The buildings are an historic mill workers' terrace at 64-68 Dundrum Road, Tassagh, Co. Armagh, and the former Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion building at Durham Street in Belfast.
All properties will be protected as a listed building for six months while further research is carried out.
Minister Attwood said:"We have to look forward and we must plan for our future. But we must also not ignore what has shaped us. Our built heritage provides a tangible connection to our past and we should protect its best features for future generations. Built Heritage also plays a part. It is integral to our tourism industry and this is why I have acted."
Building Preservation Notices were introduced in 2003 to protect historic buildings which are in danger of demolition or major alteration for a period of up to six months as a listed building.
The terrace dates from before 1830, while the former blood transfusion build dates from 1918.

Tax Credit Customers To Receive Annual Renewal Notices
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has reminded around 730,000 tax credit customers that will receive their annual renewal notices from Thursday, 02 May. HMRC has said that the majority of claims are automatically renewed, and customers will know if that is the case if their notice features a 'black stripe'.

PSNI Reveals Figures On Mass Speeding Operation
New figures from the PSNI show the number of drivers caught speeding in one day in Northern Ireland as part of a major operation. Police carried out vehicle check points, speed checks and proactively patrolling as part of a Service Wide proactive Roads Policing Operation focusing on speeding (OP Lifesaver) and pedestrian safety (Op Safer steps).
