Man Found Unconscious Outside Leisure Centre

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after he was found unconscious on a street in west Belfast.

The 34-year-old, who has not been named, was discovered close to Shankill Leisure Centre at 7.30am on Sunday morning, but police say he may have lain in the street for a number of hours.

The man suffered head and facial injuries. Police are trying to establish how he was injured.

Shankill DUP Councillor Brian Kingston has supported police calls for anyone with information to come forward.

He said: "It is concerning that this man was found lying unconscious in the street this morning.

"Thankfully, it appears that the man's head injuries are not as serious as was originally feared and the police are keeping as open mind as to what occurred. It is not known if any assault took place.

"He is a local man, from the Shankill, and the thoughts and prayers of local people are with him and his family at this time."
