140 Construction Jobs To Be Created In Pfizer Expansion
Labour Deputy Robert Dowds, has welcomed the €130 million investment announced by Pfizer today, in two of its sites in Grange Castle, Dublin and Ringaskiddly in Co. Cork.
He said: "This news is a strong indication of confidence in the Irish economy by a prominent multinational and major employer. Today's announcement comes on top of a $200 million injection into the Grange Castle site in 2011. The investment is in new manufacturing capability in Pfizer’s pipeline medicines and protein drug substances.
"This is major boost to this sector - Pfizer is a key cornerstone of the pharmaceutical industry in Ireland, employing 3,200 people across six sites. The development is expected to create 140 construction jobs over the next year, growing to a total of 250 jobs up until the facility's expected opening in 2015.
"The pharmaceutical sector is a major employer in Ireland, and any new investment to grow the presence of key international brands like Pfizer is very welcome.
"Despite huge economic difficulties, the pharmaceutical industry in particular has maintained a resilient presence in the Irish economy, with over 24,000 people employed in the sector.
"The Government has brought forward a series of measures in the Action Plan for Jobs to encourage the growth of the pharmaceutical sector, such as establishing new research centres to make Ireland a world leader in pharmaceutical research, led by the dedicated efforts of Minister for Research and Innovation, Sean Sherlock."

Abbott To Invest €85m In Pharmaceutical Expansion
Abbott plans to invest €85 million at its pharmaceutical manufacturing operation in Sligo. The investment will result in the creation of up to approximately 175 highly skilled jobs. The expansion of the facility will be completed in 2014. The investment is supported by the Irish Government through IDA Ireland.

An American pharmaceutical research company have announced some 200 jobs for Co Westmeath. According to reports this morning the company, Pharmaceutical Product Development (PPD), is to open a base at the IDA Garrycastle Business and Technology Park in Athlone. Executives from PPD will be in Athlone this morning to confirm details of the jobs.

175 Jobs Created In Historic Buildings
The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys TD, has announced the end of year results for the Built Heritage Jobs Leverage Scheme 2014. The scheme generated 175 jobs, and a total of €15m was invested in 540 projects across the country.
