Gallaher to cut 175 jobs in Co Antrim
Cigarette maker, Gallahers is set to cut 175 jobs at its factory in Co Antrim.
The company said the decision, which will be part of an overhaul of its European operations, would mean the company would also have to close down its factory in Dublin.
With more than 1,000 employees in Northern Ireland, the tobacco giant will cut 130 jobs at its Ballymena plant this year with a further 45 jobs over the next two years.
In a statement released on Tuesday the company also revealed further cuts across the UK and Austria. It said: "After careful consideration of the review, the group is planning to cease all manufacturing in its Dublin factory and also to reduce jobs in Austria and the UK. Overall, around 430 operational jobs could be affected."
Gallagher, which was founded in Northern Ireland in 1840, is one of the biggest names in the tobacco industry, with brands that include Benson and Hedges and Silk Cut.

Motorola to cut over 9,000 jobs worldwide
BBC News has reported that US telecoms equipment maker Motorola is to cut 9,400 jobs worldwide over the next 12 months. The BBC has reported that this latest round of restructuring will hit 4,000 staff at its chip making plants as well as 1,300 workers in its equipment factories.

British Airways poised to cut 1,800 jobs by end of financial year
British Airways has informed unions of plans to cut 1,800 jobs by the end of the financial year. The company announced they would aim to achieve the reduction through voluntary redundancies and natural wastage. However, a spokesman said they could not rule out compulsory redundancies.
