Three Arrested Over Mobile Fuel Laundering Plant

Three men have been arrested in relation to the seizure of a mobile fuel laundering plant at the docks in Belfast on Wednesday.

HMRC officers, accompanied by police, carried out searches and uncovered the plant, which can produce 4.3 million litres of illicit fuel a year.

John Whiting, Assistant Director of Criminal Investigation for the HMRC, said: "Fuel tankers are designed to transport fuel safely. These tanks carrying diesel were simply chained to the trailer, showing a total disregard for other road users and posing an enormous public safety risk."

4,000 litres of red diesel were recovered as well as nearly two and a half tonnes of toxic waste.

The three men have been released on bail.
