Anti-Internment March Confirmed
An 'Anti-Internment Parade' is to march along Royal Avenue in Belfast City Centre this evening, with up to 5,000 participants expected to attend.
The parade will march along the following route:
Ardoyne Avenue
Oldpark Road
Rosapenna Street
Rosapenna Drive
Cliftonville Road
Antrim Road
New Lodge Road
North Queen Street
Donegall Stret
Royal Avenue
Castle Street
Divis Street
Falls Road
Anderstown Road (as far as busy bee)
It is due to begin at 18:00, however access to Royal Avenue will be restricted from 17:00.
Counter protests are to be staged by six different loyalist groups during the parade: the Greater Concerned Residents Group Belfast, the Protest
Concerned Residents Group, United Protestant Voice, the Protestant Coalition, the No 2 District Loyal Orange Lodge Belfast and Friends of No.9 District.
The DUP's Nelson McCausland has described the parade as a "recipe for disaster" and called for Chief Constable Matt Baggott and Secretary of State Theresa Villiers to ban it.
"The Secretary of State has said that the Castlederg march does not meet the legal tests to use her powers. We believe the event in Belfast meets each and every one of them," he said.
"We re-iterate again the message that if Matt Baggott and Theresa Villiers abdicate their responsibilities and the parade goes ahead, that protests against this dissident republican event must remain peaceful at all times. No Unionist or Loyalist should stoop to the level of dissident republicans."

Two Road Improvement Schemes For Newcastle
Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has said work is to commence next week on two road improvement schemes in Newcastle, Co Down. The schemes will total £324,000. Work on a £270,000 resurfacing scheme on the U6208 Shimna Road, Newcastle, and a £54,000 resurfacing scheme on Park Avenue, Newcastle, is to start on Monday 13 January 2014.
