Marie Curie 10k Walk - Registration Still Open

Marie Curie is reminding the public there is still time to sign up for the upcoming 'Walk Ten at Stormont Estate' fundraising event.

With less than three weeks to go until the event, 'Give My Head Peace'’ star Alexandra Ford, aka Dympna, has been getting involved to drum up support for the charity, reminding those who are interested that it is not too late to sign up.

All money raised will go to help Marie Curie nurses provide free care to people with terminal illnesses in their own homes.

Taking place on 30 August, it is one of a series of 10K summer evening walks followed by celebrations at 17 venues across the UK.

On arrival at Stormont Estateat 18:00, participants will be given the opportunity to write a personal message on a candle bag and help light up the night in memory of a loved one.

Following the walk, there will be a fireworks display, music, picnics, as well as face painting and balloon modelling for younger participants.

Registration is £10 per person in advance (children go free) and £20 to register on the night.

Commenting on the event, Dympna said: "As you know, I’m not often out of my high heels but for Marie Curie’s Walk Ten it’s yellow t-shirt and pink trainers all the way. Please join me and sign up today to help support such an important cause."

Suzy McIlveen, Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Fundraising Events Manager for Northern Ireland commented: "We’ve had so much enthusiam locally for Walk Ten and there’s still time to sign up to take part part and support the charity. It’s a fantastic event that combines general exercise, great entertainment and the opportunity to raise money to provide end of life care for local people when they need it most."
