Break-in linked to charity building fire

Police in Belfast are linking a break-in at the headquarters of the Chest, Heart and Stroke Association offices with a fire which broke out in the same building early this morning.

The fire started on the ground floor at the back of the building before spreading. It was spotted shortly afterwards by a passing police car. Two offices were completed destroyed while a ceiling also caved in.

Earlier, a car that that had crashed at Curzon Street, off the Lower Ormeau Road, was found to be containing the charity's collecting tins.

The charity has said that it has begun to look for temporary offices for its 25 full-time and part-time staff.

No one was injured in the fire.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an attempted murder in Banbridge. On Friday, 12 April, a 40-year-old man was shot by a masked man as he sat in a vehicle in a car park on the Rathfriland Road. The shooting victim remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Appeal After Child Struck By Car In West Belfast
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses after a child was struck by a car in west Belfast on the morning of Monday, 29 April. A six-year-old boy was struck by a car at the junction of Tennent Street and Shankill Road at around 8.55am.

Appeal Issued Following Two Car Collision In Lisbellaw
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses following a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the Tattygare Road, Lisbellaw. Police received a report before 6.15pm on Tuesday 14 May that a collision has taken place involving a scrambler type motorcycle and white Hyundai Tucson.
