Call For Liquidator To Secure Jobs In Rathkeale
Fianna Fáil TD for Limerick, Niall Collins, has called on the liquidator for Andersen to do all he can to secure as many of the 169 jobs under threat at the jewellery manufacturer based in Rathkeale.
Deputy Collins commented: "I have been contacted by and met with a number of workers since the announcement on Friday. The company's closure could have a devastating impact on workers and their families while there could be many indirect jobs also under threat in the service industry. There will also be a huge economic impact for Rathkeale and the Mid West region.
"The liquidator for Andersen, Kieran Wallace of KPMG, is to be appointed on September 23rd. I contacted Mr Wallace today and impressed upon him that his priority must to be to secure jobs. In the first instance he must ascertain if he can find an investor or an alternative business to employ some of the skilled workers.
"I am also calling on the liquidator to engage with employees, their trade union SIPTU and public representatives regarding the issue of redundancy payments. Workers have informed me they have only been offered statutory redundancy terms. If the company is to close, an enhanced redundancy package must be offered to help with costs like mortgage repayments for the many families that will be affected."

Offshore Company Axes Jobs
Around 150 jobs in Aberdeen and Dundee have been axed after an offshore services company ceased trading. Oceanteam Power and Umbilical has been forced to close when the firm's holding company withdrew its financial support. Staff are based in Aberdeen, at workshops in Dundee and offshore.
