HMRC Announce 120 Graduate Jobs

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has said it is to recruit at least 120 graduates for trainee positions.

The graduates will join a specially designed four-year Tax Professional Development Programme and will gain skills across all of the organisation's activities. This could include working with specialist teams investigating tax fraud, unravelling tax avoidance schemes and looking at the tax affairs of large businesses, as well as gaining general business skills.

Last year, almost 16,000 applicants applied to join the 200 positions on HMRC's Tax Professional Development Programme.

Edward Troup, Tax Assurance Commissioner and second Permanent Secretary at HMRC, is quoted as saying: "One day you could be working on criminal investigations or statistical forecasting, the next you might be challenging an avoidance scheme from a blue chip company.

"We are looking for graduates to join our 65,000 staff in the vital work of bringing in £476bn in tax from 60 million taxpayers and 4.8 million businesses.

"What HMRC does has an impact on every single person and business in Britain and is vital to ensuring the UK has the money to fund public services."

Applications for the jobs close on 29 November.
