Minimum Wage Increase Introduced
Following a recommendation by the Low Pay Commission earlier in the year, the national minimum wage is set to increase by 12 pence an hour.
The new UK minimum wage of £6.31 will come into force from today (Tuesday 1 October).
There is also an increase in the minimum wage for 18 to 20-year olds, increasing by 5 pence an hour to £5.03, and for the 16-to-17-year-old age group it will rise by 4 pence to £3.27 an hour.
Unions and wage campaigners however, have called for a larger increase, arguing that the minimum wage doesn't reflect the real cost of living.

Irish Labour Affairs Minister To Consult On Minimum Wage
Ireland's Minister for Labour Affairs Tony Killeen has received the Labour Court’s recommendation in relation to the national minimum hourly rate of pay. However, the Minister said that the Economic and Social Research Institute would be consulted before deciding whether to increase the minimum wage.

The government has announced a 19p increase in the national minimum wage, bring it up to £6.50 per hour. The new will come into effect in October following a recommendation by the Low Pay Commission for a 3% rise. Alongside this the rate for 18 to 20-year-olds will be increased by 2%, going up by 10p to £5.13 an hour.

Citizens Advice welcome minimum wage increase
The Government has accepted the recommendations from the Low Pay Commission to increase the National Minimum Wage. From October the present rate for those 22 years and over will rise from £4.20 to £4.50 and for 18-21 years the £3.60 hourly rate will rise to £3.80.
